Compared to a truck-based SUV, a crossover is generally lighter, smoother riding, more responsive, and delivers better fuel economy.  The Santa Fe is what is known as a crossover utility vehicle (CUV), meaning it is built with unibody construction, instead of having the body-on-frame structure of a traditional truck or larger SUV Power Locks✔ Power Windows✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ AM/FM✔ Climate Control✔ Bluetooth✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Alloy Wheels

2007 hyundai santa fe review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new crossover suv suited for the suburbs. introductionhyundai is on a roll. Its vehicles are proving to have the reliability and quality people expect from japanese cars. The hyundai santa fe is all-new for 2007 and early indications are that it could be a true alternative to the toyota highlander.  the santa fe is a so-called crossover suv, meaning it's built like a car, using unibody construction instead of the body-on-frame construction of a traditional truck. It's a practical vehicle for everyday use.  completely redesigned, the new 2007 hyundai santa fe is attractive. It blends into the suburbs nicely, shedding the quirky looks of last year's model. The new santa fe is smooth and quiet and handles well on winding, paved roads. Yet it retains hyundai's value quotient. lineupthe 2007 hyundai santa fe comes in three trim levels: gls, se, and limited. All-wheel-drive is offered as an option 2,000) on all models. Active safety features include antilock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.  the gls 20,945) is powered by a 185-hp 2. 7-liter v6 engine. It comes standard with cloth upholstery, a five-speed manual gearbox. The gls is well equipped with air conditioning, a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, 112-watt am/fm/cd/mp3 audio system with six speakers, rocker panel moldings, heated power side mirrors, power windows, power door locks, remote keyless entry, 16-inch alloy wheels, and a roof rack with rails.  the se 23,645) has a more powerful, 242-hp 3. 3-liter v6 with a five-speed automatic transmission with shiftronic and 18-inch alloy wheels. In addition to the equipment found on the gls, the se adds electrochromic auto-dimming rearview mirror with compass, front fog lights and steering wheel audio controls. An optional premium package 1,600) adds a power driver seat with power lumbar support, a power tilt/slide glass sunroof, heated front seats and homelink. The ultimate package 3,850) includes the premium package features, plus a rear-seat entertainment system with an eight-inch lcd monitor, 252-watt am/fm/cd-changer/mp3 audio system with seven speakers (including subwoofer) and external amplifier, and a 115-volt power outlet in the rear cargo area.  the limited 25,945) adds leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, power driver seat with power lumbar support, dual zone automatic temperature control with outside temperature display and homelink. A chrome grille and exterior door handles, as well as a body color hatch spoiler, distinguish the limited. The ultimate package 3,550) includes a sunroof, rear-seat entertainment system with an eight-inch lcd monitor, a 605-watt infinity logic 7 surround sound am/fm/cd-changer/mp3 audio system with 10 speakers (including subwoofer) and external amplifier, 115-volt power outlet and power front passenger seat.  xm satellite radio and a navigation system will be available on later models.  the santa fe includes hyundai's bumper-to-bumper warranty of five years/60,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of 10 years/100,000 miles. walkaroundcompared to the previous-generation model (2006 and earlier), which was polarizing with its curvy lines, the new hyundai santa fe blends in with other suvs in its segment.  hyundai says the new santa fe evokes the assertive grace of a speed skater with a relatively long wheelbase and short overhangs. Some would say it looks like a smaller version of the volkswagen touareg, which is not a bad comparison.  the most noticeable attribute of the santa fe's front is the complete absence of a bumper. Instead the front valence curves around from beneath the body to encompass the large grille and wrap around headlights. The hood slopes up toward the raked windshield and the wedge shape continues along the lower edges of the side windows that sweep up dramatically toward the tailgate.  even the rear has distinctively curved lines with high mounted taillight clusters that are partially mounted on the main body and the tailgate. The easy to see and easy to grab tailgate handle is definitely a santa fe design cue.  although the new santa fe is slightly larger than the previous model, it looks smaller because its styling is more refined and it looks less like a truck. interiorpleasing is the best way to describe the interior of the hyundai santa fe as it features modern plastics with a soft touch feel. All models include blue accent lighting at night to illuminate the instruments, switches and the edges of the front cupholders. Even the base gls has nice luxury touches that include realistic looking, but fake wood-trim accents across the width of the dashboard, surrounding the shifter and along the door panels.  the gauges are mounted in a large instrument pod in front of the steering wheel. The radio and climate controls are well located in a center stack that is mounted high in the dashboard for easy reach and observation while driving.  according to hyundai's measurements, the headroom and legroom is greater in all rows than in competing models thanks to a uniquely designed unibody that is not based off an existing car platform, thus allowing the engineers to maximize interior space without compromise.  with the optional third row of seats folded down there is a generous 34. 2 cubic feet of storage space on an almost flat floor. Fold down the middle row of seats and there is 79. 3 cubic feet of storage space. Although the santa fe is one of smallest midsize suvs in exterior dimensions it is far from being the smallest inside, a tribute to its space-efficient design.  the air vents for the center row of seats are mounted in the b-pillar, which is much more effective than being mounted down low behind the center console, as in many vehicles.  we did not get to try a model with the third row of seats. Additionally, one loses the very practical hidden storage space under the rear floor when the vehicle is fitted with the optional third row of seats. driving impressionnobody can really expect an suv, even one built using a stiff unibody, to handle as well as a sedan. However the new hyundai santa fe comes mighty close. The steering has a pleasant feel, neither too tight nor too loose, the brakes work well if not dramatically, the ride is smooth and the vehicle is quiet.  the gls comes with the smaller of two available v6 engines and is available with a manual transmission, which is a unique combination in the u. We haven't had a chance to check it out and hyundai admits few people will buy one, but a manual transmission is available for drivers who want one.  we briefly drove a santa fe with all-wheel drive and on dry pavement it did not feel any different from the front-drive model. All-wheel drive is designed to improve handling stability and traction on slippery surfaces.  all santa fe models include electronic stability control with traction control.  the best value may be the front-drive se model, which has the same high-tech aluminum engine and transmission as the limited. summarythe hyundai santa fe is the same size as the toyota highlander, but it costs less. Judging from hyundai's performance in j. Power and associates quality studies, hyundai's vehicles are right in there in terms of quality and reliability as well. The santa fe is a so-called crossover suv, meaning it's built like a car, using unibody construction instead of the body-on-frame construction of a traditional truck. It's a practical vehicle for everyday use. It comes in three trim levels: gls, se, and limited. All-wheel-drive is offered as an option on all models. Safety features that come standard on all models include dual front airbags, front seat side-impact airbags, side curtain airbags and active front head restraints. Active safety features include antilock brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. For 2007, the hyundai santa. 2011 hyundai sonata review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new lineup includes fuel-efficient hybrid and turbo versions. introductionthe 2011 hyundai sonata is an all-new midsize sedan, completely redesigned and re-engineered. The 2011 sonata lineup starts with the sonata gls, which retails for less than $20,000 and delivers more power than other cars in its class. Environmental protection agency's fuel economy ratings. The base 2. 4 liter engine delivers 198 horsepower (190 hp in states using california emissions regulations) or 200 hp with a dual exhaust system, which is substantially more power than what's found in the base models of the other midsize sedans. The 2. 0t model's fuel economy on the highway is better than all but the fusion. The hybrid tops the honda and camry hybrids in epa city and highway fuel economy ratings and bests the fusion's highway rating.  that 2. 0t turbocharged engine is hyundai's more economical and more affordable answer to americans' perceived need for speed. It's not only more powerful than the v6 that powered the 2010 sonata and the competition's v6s, but also generally less thirsty, by almost eight mpg over the malibu in epa's highway rating, to pick the best example. An extra bonus is that hyundai went against the grain in its selection of transmission for the 2011 hybrid. The hybrid covers the need for green-ness and the sonata se actually is fun to drive, especially the 2. 0t, while the gls handles interstates with ease and the limited brings luxury. Hyundai has tuned the suspension calibrations differently for the different models, so each has its own character. lineupthe 2011 hyundai sonata comes in gls, se, and limited trim. (all new car test drive prices are manufacturer's suggested retail prices, which do not include destination charge and may change at any time without notice.)  sonata gls 19,195) comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, bluetooth, am/fm/xm/cd/mp3 system (with three-month subscription to xm) with six speakers and ipod/usb and auxiliary input jacks, tilt/telescope steering wheel, steering wheel audio controls, trip computer, power door locks, power mirrors, power windows, cruise control, remote keyless entry fob, 60/40 split folding rear seat, p205/65r16 tires on steel wheels. The gls comes with a 6-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic 20,195). The popular equipment package 750) upgrades with 16 inch alloy wheels, power driver seat and manual lumbar adjustment, chrome interior handles, faux leather interior panels (in place of the base molded, hard plastic), and automatic light control. The navigation package 1,700) adds a touch screen navigation system and premium speakers pumped up with a subwoofer and an external amplifier along with everything from the popular equipment package.  sonata se 22,595) and sonata 2. 0t se 24,145) comes standard with the 6 speed shiftronic automatic, steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, leather trimmed steering wheel, shift knob and seat bolsters with cloth inserts, eight way power driver's seat, automatic light control, faux leather door panels, front fog lights, p225/45r18 hankook tires on silver alloy wheels, chrome tipped dual exhaust, proximity entry, push button start/stop, dark chrome grille with body color hood trim. The se rear suspension gets beefier springs and a larger stabilizer bar. Options for the se: a navigation and sunroof package 2600) that includes the touch screen navigation system, a power tilt and slide sunroof, and the speaker and amplifier upgrade.  sonata limited 25,295) and 2. 0t limited 27,045) upgrade with full leather seating surfaces, dual zone automatic climate control with outside temperature display and floor console mounted rear vents, infinity audio system with in dash, 6cd changer, heated front and rear seats, turn signal indicators in the outside mirrors, dark chrome grille and hood trim, piano black or woodgrain interior trim accents, powered tilt and slide sunroof, auto dimming rearview mirror with compass, and p215/55r17 kumho tires on aluminum alloy wheels. The 2. 0t limited also has paddle shifters and an outside temperature display. Options are limited to the navigation package 2,100) comprising the touch screen navigation system (which displaces the cd changer), an integrated rear backup video camera and top level infinity speakers. Hd radio technology is included in the 2. 0t limited's premium sound system.  sonata hybrid features and option list essentially mirrors that of the se models, including the outside temperature display but excluding the paddle shifters.  safety features standard on sonata include front airbags; driver and front passenger side impact airbags; front and rear seat side air curtains; anti-lock brakes (abs), electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), and brake assist; electronic stability control with traction control; active front-seat head restraints; rear-seat child safety seat anchors; and tire-pressure monitors. The rearview camera that comes in the limited navigation package can reduce the chance of running over someone when backing up. walkaroundthe all-new, 2011 hyundai sonata is classed as a midsize sedan but it's large by those standards. Measured by total enclosed space, it just sneaks in at the bottom of the large sedan class.  hyundai's designers throw around phrases like fluidic sculpture design language and monoform side profile in describing the new styling. They say their goal was to design a car that no one could say, looks like brand x. As to the former, the word busy seems apt in describing the sonata's styling cues. And as to the latter, observers should be forgiven if on catching sight of the new sonata their first thought is of one of those cars that wear the three pointed star emblem. This isn't to say the sonata's looks aren't striking or pleasant, because neither is true. It's just that neither are they necessarily unique.  the front end on all but the hybrid stays with a pinched nose look echoing that of the hyundai genesis coupe. Sculpted creases flowing forward and inward from the a-pillars (the windshield's side frames) draw the eye to the grin like grille and the outsized hyundai logo. Headlight housings start at the outer edges of the grille and wrap around the front fenders beyond the leading arch of the wheelwell, visually lessening the front overhang. The lower fascia sports a wide mouth air intake flanked by squinting recesses for the uplevel fog lights.  the hybrid's forward territory shows much of the same shapes and sculpting but gets an entirely different and quite striking grille treatment, an oversized, hexagonal opening split by an oversized horizontal bar. Hyundai wants no one to miss that this sonata is something special. The hybrid's headlights make a similar statement, highlighted with a string of led running lights laced around the projector beam lenses.  side aspect shows three, sharply defined character lines below a roofline with a severely raked windshield and rear window, which combines with a short trunk lid to minimize the car's mass. The highlight is a chrome strip that starts at the headlight housing and runs along the car's beltline (where the side windows meet the door panels) all the way to the rearmost tip of the rear quarter glass. Below this is a knife edge crease sweeping up from the front quarter panel through the door handles and finishing as an eyebrow for the taillight housings. Another knife edge crease cuts across the bottom of the doors just above the rocker panels before leapfrogging the rear wheelwells to melt into the rear bumper. On the hybrid, a chrome strip accents this crease. It's an elegant look, with understated taillights, minimalist chrome bar topping the license plate indent and a lower bumper element that mirrors the lower front fascia

2012 hyundai tucson review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Upgrades add more value to compact suv. introductionhyundai continues to refine and upgrade the tucson, its compact-crossover suv. Features such as turn-signal repeaters and sophisticated sachs amplitude-selective shock absorbers, previously reserved for the top-end limited model, are now standard on the mid-range gls as well. And those are only the highlights.  the 2012 hyundai tucson lineup begins with the value-priced, front-wheel-drive tucson gl. Power is provided by a 176-horsepower 2. 4-liter engine. Hyundai’s superb 6-speed automatic is standard, and for 2012 comes with new active eco technology, which makes the response of the engine and transmission smoother to changes in throttle position over time. Hyundai says this can yield as much as a 7-percent gain in real-world fuel economy. Epa ratings for the 2. 4-liter tucson with active eco are 22/32 mpg with front-wheel drive and 21/28 mpg with all-wheel drive. New low-rolling-resistance silica tires contribute to those numbers.  inside, the cabin is a model of straightforwardness and simplicity. It's excellent ergonomically, meaning everything is easy to reach and operate. The materials are nice. The seats are supportive and comfortable. Tucson skillfully tricks the eye, to its benefit. Just as the huge audi q7 manages to appear smaller and more athletic than it is, the tucson does just the opposite. Its high beltline and squinty side-window configuration make the tucson appear larger and more capacious than it really is. For 2012 solar glass becomes standard also, with privacy glass in rear windows. Tucson gl comes standard with the 5-speed manual but is available with hyundai's 6-speed automatic transmission 20,245), which includes cruise control. The gl is front-wheel drive only.  tucson gls 2wd 22,295) upgrades with leatherette upholstery with cloth inserts, leather-wrapped wheel and shifter, bluetooth hands-free phone, illuminated vanity mirrors and glovebox, cruise control, steering wheel audio and cruise controls, faux leather inner door trim, soft-touch interior paint, black garnish moldings, silver roof rails, 17-inch alloy wheels, bodycolor door handles, heated fold-away outside mirrors, and an engine cover. New for 2012 are low-rolling-resistance tires, turn-signal repeaters in the outside mirrors, and asd shock absorbers from sachs. The gls comes standard with the 6-speed automatic; it is available with awd and heated front seats 23,945).  tucson limited 24,995) and limited awd 26,495) upgrade to leather seating, heated front seats, eight-way adjustable driver's seat, power lumbar support for driver and front passenger, dual-zone automatic temperature control, cargo cover, chrome grille and door handles, automatic headlights, front foglights, front wiper de-icer, an auto-dimming inside mirror with homelink, and 18-inch alloy wheels. All-wheel drive is optional. walkaroundthe hyundai tucson takes advantage of the current european taste for dynamic thrusting forms and aggressive angularities. It has swoopy lines darting to and fro along its flanks, nose and tail. A huge, deeply slanted windshield provides excellent forward perspective for the driver, but for rear seat passengers, looking out of the tucson's narrow side windows is a little like peering out the gun slit of an armored car.  there will be those who find the tucson's exterior a little busy looking, while others will find that standing next to the tucson and looking down its door sides, it looks oddly slab-sided, bigger and heavier than it really is.  as always, there is ample room for debate about the tucson's styling. The one point that is not debatable is this crossover's high expectations. Its styling is up to the minute, as aggressive as any crossover in the world market. The front seats are excellent both in terms of firm support and quality leather. This hyundai gets an a-plus in the avoiding annoyances category.  the dashboard's black pebble-grain covering is handsome and anything but econo class. The dashboard instruments are straightforward and dignified, with a water temperature and fuel gauge delivered in electronic readouts. To the left of the steering column are controls for hill assist, a stability-control off switch and the differential locker control. Cruise control and audio switches are provided on the steering wheel, with phone controls partially hidden inside the wheel rim.  the center console is simply laid out, offering audio controls, a navigation system and bluetooth mp3 capability. Here we encountered one weakness in the tucson, its forward-slanting navigation screen was all but blinded by glare on sunny days. On the other hand, it is blessedly straightforward to use, with a proper radial knob provided for tuning the audio. Defrost front and rear and individual seat-heater controls are easily selected, while xm is the satellite server of choice, and it should be. Life should always be this easy. But in too many other cars, it isn't. The 2. 4-liter engine is rated 176 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 168 pound-feet of torque at 4000 rpm. Although hyundai claims larger real-world gains for the new active eco function, epa-estimated fuel economy for the 2012 2. 4-liter tucson engine is up only slightly over last year’s model, from 22/31 to 22/32 mpg city/highway with front-wheel drive.  the hyundai-designed 6-speed automatic transmission is smooth-shifting and excellent, giving the tucson a big advantage in efficiency over other vehicles in its class. Additionally, its manual shifting capability is particularly good. The 2. 0-liter produces 165 horsepower at 6200 rpm and 146 pound-feet at 4600. We haven't driven the tucson gl with the 2. 0-liter engine. As the gl is not significantly lighter than the gls, we have to suspect that performance suffers accordingly. The automatic 2. 0-liter is also equipped with the new active eco system, but its epa ratings remain the same as last year’s, at 23/31 mpg city/highwa. 2008 hyundai tucson review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Versatile, economical alternative to cr-v. introductionthe hyundai tucson is the korean automaker's smallest, entry-level suv. Its most obvious competitor is the honda cr-v. Like the cr-v, the hyundai tucson is strictly a five-seater, with no third-row-seating option. It's easy to get in and out of the front and back seats, and the rear seatbacks flip down easily. There's a decent amount of cargo space available.  we like its looks. It's nicely proportioned, with clean lines and short overhangs front and rear. On wet pavement, 4wd tucsons don't spin their front tires the way the front-drive models do when accelerating from a stop. In snow, they benefit from an all-wheel-drive system that directs power to the rear wheels as road conditions change. A switch allows the driver to lock in a 50/50 torque split when creeping through drifting snow. Though not intended to be a highly capable off-road vehicle, the tucson can certainly manage rocky dirt two-tracks and other light off-highway duties.  for the 2008 model year, hyundai has made a six-disc cd changer standard with limited trim, and replaced the gray leather interior with black. Late-production 2008 tucson models come standard with xm satellite radio (including three months of free service), an auxiliary audio input jack, active front head restraints, and a tire-pressure monitor. Power and associates initial quality study named tucson the industry's highest quality all-new model when it was launched in 2005; and rated it highest in initial quality in the compact multi-activity vehicle segment in 2006.  a comprehensive list of active and passive safety features are standard equipment, including six airbags and electronic stability control. Tucson is aggressively priced and it comes with hyundai's five-year/60,000-mile warranty. Tucson earned a five-star safety rating from the u. Government (nhtsa) in front and side impacts. The insurance institute for highway safety, which conducts crash tests differently than the government, has rated the tucson 'acceptable' in its frontal offset and side-impact crash tests. Their system rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal or poor. lineupthe 2008 hyundai tucson is offered in three trim levels. Optional on limited and standard on se is a 173-horsepower 2. 7-liter v6. Air conditioning is optional 900) on the manual-shift version, but standard on the gls automatic 19,335). Mirrors and door handles are body color instead of black, and fender moldings and lower bodyside cladding is gray. A preferred equipment package 1,200) adds a power tilt-and-slide sunroof and heated front seats.  limited v6 fwd 22,885) and 4wd 24,585) feature leather seats, 200-watt am/fm/cd/xm audio with six-disc in-dash changer plus six speakers and subwoofer, automatic temperature control with outside temperature display, auto-dimming inside rearview mirror with compass, and a rear cargo mat. Exterior trim is monochromatic. Side-impact airbags for torso protection and side curtain airbags designed to provide head protection for passengers in both rows come standard. New for 2008 are active front head restraints and a tire-pressure monitor. walkaroundfor its first two model years, the hyundai tucson looked like a shorter version of bigger-sibling santa fe, which to an extent it was. The comparison was not necessarily in the santa fe's favor; if tucson was a bit stubby, it was not nearly so quirky, with taut sides and business-like fender flares in place of santa fe's oddly undulating flanks.  then, for 2007, santa fe went all sleek and sophisticated, chasing after the same up-level crossover look recently adopted by the toyota rav4 and honda cr-v. That leaves tucson, by default, more distinctive-looking; the last of the cute-utes.  the size difference between the two siblings has grown as well. Where before tucson was just about 7 inches shorter overall than santa fe, on a wheelbase that was actually a half-inch longer; now tucson is shorter by almost 3 inches in wheelbase and close to 14 inches overall. But remember that's because santa fe has grown, while tucson remains the same size it always was.  the tucson has clean lines with a relatively big grille up front and headlamps that blend in well with the hood line and edges of the fenders. The front bumper is a large one-piece molding that begins just below the grille, houses three large air openings and two fog lights (on models that have them) and then forms a spoiler at the bottom. Yet in profile this impressive piece of plastic barely protrudes in front of the grille opening. At the back, the outer edges of the rear bumper reaches up to the tail lights; this bumper sticks out a few inches, adding protection.  tucson's rear tailgate slopes forward, avoiding the van-like vertical look of many other small suvs. The rear window can be opened separately from the main tailgate, although it is not very big, making it ineffective for loading much more than small light stuff.  the se comes with lower body cladding that runs from the front bumper, around the fenders and along the lower edges of the doors, to the rear bumper. Finished in gray, the cladding is not too obtrusive. Limited features a monochromatic look, with body-color cladding as well as the same body-color mirrors and door handles as the se.  all models come with 16-inch alloy wheels; although the wheels on se and limited are more intricately styled. Roof rack side rails and tinted windows are also standard on all models.  even though tucson is not intended for serious off-road driving, it does have relatively short front and rear overhangs for clearance through gulleys and over obstacles. This is largely thanks to the tucson's long wheelbase, fractionally longer than that of the honda cr-v or ford escape, even though both of those vehicles are several inches longer overall. Tucson's longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs is a sign of superior design. The tucson also has a relatively wide track, which helps improve its stability. interiorthere's nothing cheap or spartan about the interior of the hyundai tucson, although it won't be mistaken for a luxury vehicle. Trim accents are matte black in the gls and metalgrain in se and limited. This feature is highly recommended by safety organizations such as the iihs.  big radio and climate controls are mounted reasonably high for easy reach, as is the shift lever. The instrument pod contains three gauges with a decent-sized speedometer in the center and a smaller tachometer and fuel gauge off to the sides. In addition there are a couple of cupholders in the center console. It's also nice to see a proper parking brake lever in the center instead of a pedal-operated parking brake. There are no fewer than three 12-volt power outlets; apart from the usual one at the front there is one in the rear cargo area and one at the back of the center console for use by the rear seat passengers. The rear armrest also includes a cupholder that can accommodate a juice box.  thanks again to tucson's long wheelbase, ingress to and egress from the rear seats is good. Once inside, rear-seat passeng. Cruise Control✔ AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Tachometer✔ CD Changer✔ Air Conditioning✔ Bluetooth✔ Leather Seats✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Alloy Wheels
